When complete, the mixed-use development will include street-level retail and housing units marketed at employees who work at Emory, the CDC and other institutional employers on Clifton Road.
The mixed-use project is expected to be part of the U.S. Green Building Council's LEED "green" and Earthcraft building programs. Over 50 percent of all of the construction material from the demolition of this site will be recycled back into the mixed-use development or other nearby projects. Oxford Road Building and Parking Deck
When complete the building will include a suite for Undergraduate Admissions, consolidate the bookstore into a single building, provide a Starbucks cafe and include an underground parking deck and mini-quad. The project was designed by Ayers/Saint/Gross in collaboration with the campus user groups and Emory's Campus Services staff. The building will be the new "front door" to the university.
Undergraduate Admissions will occupy the 3rd floor of the building overlooking Oxford Road. In addition to their offices, there will be a 120 seat presentation room, a parlor and living room where students, faculty, staff, visitors, and guests of the university can assemble and relax.
The bookstore will consolidate their operations into this building. The bookstore will occupy space on all 3 levels of the building. Barnes and Noble has been selected to operate the bookstore. In addition to serving faculty, students and staff, it will be easily available to the adjoining community. It will have major entrances on Oxford Road and the plaza level.
A Starbucks cafe will be located on the first floor of the building. It will provide seating inside the cafe for 67 people. Additional outdoor seating will be available on the adjacent patio.
The underground parking deck will provide parking for 225 cars. It is masked on the front by the building and "green" walls will over time soften the view on the sides of the deck. A min-quad will be located above the parking deck. The combination landscape and hardscape will provide enjoyable outdoor space for visitors and the Emory community in surrounding buildings.
Concrete has been placed for the 3 levels of the underground parking deck. Crews are currently building the forms for the plaza level of the project. This work will continue for the next three weeks. Placement of the concrete plaza is anticipated to be complete by August 20th.
Footings for the building, the foundation and concrete slab for the patio adjacent to the cafe are in place. Steel required for the construction of the building, which will front Oxford Road will be arriving on site in early August.
