Candler School of Theology Phase II
Collins Cooper Carusi Architects and Shepley Bulfinch Richardson & Abbot Architects completed the comprehensive design plan in 2006 for the Candler Theology Building Complex project, a two-phased construction project. Phase I, consisting of 65,000 GSF of classroom and office space as well as the Ethics Center, was completed in summer 2008. The 2008 Phase II design included the teaching chapel, classrooms and CSoT library collection space. Due to the economic climate in 2008, the decision was made to delay Phase II construction and allow fundraising efforts to mature. Design verification meetings were held during the summer 2012. The 2012 CSoT Phase II design (67,963 GSF) will include a theology library, a teaching chapel, classrooms and other complementary program elements. The plan will require the demolition of Bishops Hall prior to start of construction. The revised Phase II project scope and budget increased to include the repair and renovation of Rudolph Plaza.

Cannon Chapel Technology Improvements and Renovation
Designed by architect Paul Rudolph and finished in 1981, Cannon Chapel is architecturally significant to the main campus quad. A shared resource between Candler School of Theology and Office of Religious Life, the chapel is used as a teaching chapel and as the center of religious observances on campus for multiple groups. The Dean of the Chapel and Religious Life and the Dean of Candler School of Theology (CSoT) are proposing a renovation of Cannon Chapel. The renovation project will add new audio visual equipment for live capture and streaming for distance learning, renovate the facilities via functional space reconfigurations, and refresh existing finishes, lighting and furniture. Construction funding has been approved and the project will begin in May 2013, with a scheduled construction completion of August 2013.

Eleonore Raoul Residence Hall
Emory University Residence Life and Housing is designing a new Residence Hall, Eleonore Raoul Hall (Freshman Hall Phase Five), which is the next sequential phase within the overall Freshman Housing Master Plan. This new residence facility accommodates 330+/- beds at approximately 105,000 SF, and will be connected to the adjacent residence halls by the final extension of the green roof plaza with a parking garage below. The project design is considered to be a continuation of the plan, elevations, and building forms that were implemented in Longstreet & Means Residence Halls (Freshman Phase Three) and Hamilton Holmes (Freshman Phase Four). Accordingly, the proposed building will complete the northwest corner of the Freshman Quad using similar materials: Lithonia granite base, stucco building envelope, metal accent elements, architectural glazing at lounge & study areas, and gabled clay tile roof.

The residence hall floor plan will integrate various room types, such as traditional double rooms, RA & SA rooms, a stack of singles, double room suites, and (2) ground floor Hall Director Apartments. Full private/single ADA baths are implemented on every floor level, with community baths also available on the 2nd and 4th floors. The building also incorporates study spaces and lounges, a first story kitchen and other ancillary program spaces such as RA storage, recycling rooms, and a laundry facility. A notable two story lounge and gathering space is identified on the first floor, and will be oriented to take advantage of the newly created green space with axial views of McDonough Field.
Ayers Saint Gross is leading the Architectural & Engineering Team, and New South Construction is the Construction Manager. Preliminary sitework began summer of 2012. The building will be complete by May 2014.

Library and Academic Commons - Renovation and Addition at Oxford

The existing 40 year old Hoke O'Kelley Library building at the Oxford College campus is planned to undergo a comprehensive renovation to the existing building and a new addition to properly support the needs of the Oxford campus. This project will include the renovation of the existing 19,181 square feet as well as an approximately 8,000 square foot addition. Renovations will include building envelope upgrades as well as mechanical and electrical upgrades. The building program includes an expansion of the academic commons, additional high density shelving, new group study areas, space for reception, exhibit and teaching spaces, and adequate library support space.

The building expansion on the front of the existing library will also serve to activate the west end of the quad and an interior atrium will serve to visually connect the upper and lower floors to provide a dynamic and exciting space unique to the Oxford College campus.

The Academic Commons will be located in this two-story space, placing the more active functions toward the campus side of the building. Quieter spaces such as group study rooms will be located toward the west side of the existing building, taking advantage of views to the forested green space beyond. The interior will be designed to appeal to students and faculty with a variety of comfortable seating areas for both individual study and group collaboration. The collection space will be reorganized to maximize available space and new classrooms and seminar rooms will provide much needed state of the art teaching space.

The project architect is Collins Cooper Carusi Architects. Brasfield & Gorrie General Contractors is the Construction Manger. Additional information and construction photos are here: http://oxford.library.emory.edu/new
